The Jack Russell Terrier Club of Australia Inc., has been in existence since 1972, its present form constitutionally established in 1977, and incorporated under Victorian State legislation in 1986. It has grown steadily over the years, and although not all members are breeders, there is a steady increase in annual renewals of both breeders and non breeders. This membership now includes a number of overseas people who have imported Australian bred dogs/bitches.
From 1972 until 1991 the Jack Russell Terrier Club of Australia Inc. was the only officially constituted body for the registration of the Jack Russell Terrier In Australia. On the 1/1/91 the Australian National Kennel Council opened its register to all Jack Russell Terriers registered with our club and until 30/6/94. Its member bodies accepted onto their books any of our Jack Russell Terriers whose owners chose to apply. To this day the Jack Russell Terrier Club of Australia Inc., remains an autonomous organisation, and as the developers of the breed in Australia recognises the ANKC as the only other official body registering JRTs in this country. The JRTC of Australia Inc., operates a central Register-Studbook for all Jack Russell Terriers and registers and records all litters whelped by/from registered dogs/bitches. June 2003 saw registered 41779 Australian bred Jack Russell Terriers and 92 imports.
